In The Sick Of It

The Social Issue

"In The Sick Of It" advocates for Mental Health and Wellbeing support for NHS and Social Care staff by drawing on the real-life stories of over 500+ healthcare workers collected since April 2020. Presenting these on a national stage sparks a much-needed conversation about the unspoken toll on healthcare workers, asking the question: who cares for the nation’s carers?

From 'Clap for Heroes' to villains on the picket line, UK healthcare workers have been upholding the healthcare system in the most challenging conditions. In the Sick Of It, propels the importance of NHS staff wellbeing into the national conversation; reminding the public of the sacrifices made by healthcare staff during the pandemic; and asking audiences to 'sit up' and join in with advocating for better support for the people at the heart of the NHS.

Creating Change in Society

Wake the Beast theatre aims to raise awareness of the chronic levels of burnout, dropout, and PTSD among healthcare workers, while engaging policymakers and decision-makers in the urgent need to implement the recommendations from the Health & Social Care Committee’s 2021 report, Workforce Burnout and Resilience in the NHS and Social Care.

Their production was performed at the Houses of Parliament, and it seeks to inform the general public, encouraging them to contact their elected representatives to advocate for improved conditions for healthcare workers. Using the recommendations from the Burnout Report as a guide, Wake the Beast Theatre is aligned with a campaign spearheaded by the British Psychological Society.

They believe that Giving artists a platform to champion unheard stories is essential. Within healthcare settings, their work provides a space for reflection, allowing senior management to gain insight into the frontline experience. This creates opportunities to address challenges and ensure mistakes are not repeated.
