Rebels & Patriots
About the Show
Floating Shed Group presents: Rebels & Patriots; an Israeli-Palestinian co-creation following four young people in Tel-Aviv, Israel, and the ways mandatory conscription to the IDF affects their lives. The play is based on the writers time in the army; A raw portrayal using physical storytelling, singing and percussion that exposes the realities modern day soldiers confront daily and the traumatic consequences army life has on the mental health of the teenagers enlisted.
The Social Issue
Rebels & Patriots explores themes such as protest against war, toxic masculinity in the armed forces and self-harm. It illuminates what it means to be Israeli and peace-pursuing; the critical voice of the young people that want to coexist with their Palestinian neighbours and call for an end to the bloodshed in the region - the awful dichotomy of love for your fellow people under the pressures of politically motivated violence.
Creating Change in Society
What's happening in this critical time when polarisation in society is at its height due to the events in Israel & Palestine. Rebels & Patriots speaks of coexistence and delves deep into the complexity of the conflict and experiences young people deal with.
Bringing Jewish, Israeli & Palestinian communities and young members of the armed forces together to open a medium of communication and expression between them, to show coexistence is possible.
Floating Shed work as an Israeli-Palestinian ensemble which is a testament that coexistence is achievable and that healing can be done through creative expression. Their story and work will invite audiences to start a journey towards healing.
They hope Rebels & Patriots will change the polarised narratives people have towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and will spark conversations of understanding and listening, that put human life, human rights and compassion at the centre of the narrative.
